Elements of the program:
The aim of GI Learning Center is to move a group of struggling 2 nd graders through 6th graders to
a higher level of competency in reading/math by the end of the school year. Students are
pre/post-tested in math and reading to measure their performance level. Our goal is for
participating students to increase in math/reading by at least one grade level and for 5th graders to
pass the STAAR Test. We assess each student's needs, then group students with similar needs in
groups for instruction. Students are tutored for an hour in reading and an hour in math.
The Learning Center is opened to all elementary campuses. Teachers from various campuses
select students they feel will benefit from this program and advise parents to enroll their child.
Parents are the biggest influence in any child's education, yet parent participation in the
educational process is sorely lacking. We encourage parents of participating students to work
with us in this endeavor. In addition, we prepare dinner for the students and their families plus
teachers/their families from 5:00-5:30 pm. Two hours a night for 2 nights a week is a big-time
commitment so we hope to make it easier by providing these meals.
The tutoring sessions start at 5:30-7:30 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays. Greater Ideal Learning
Center (GI Learning Center) is FREE! We ask that parents visit the learning center at least once
a month and sit in class with their child.so they might observe how teachers interact with their
